Alcohol
is a drugs, yet our society enjoy without any problems. It is normal for a
Bhutanese to drink, some at a very young age. Alcohol is something which is
becoming more and more a part of Bhutanese culture, but binge drinking or
drinking heavily over longer period of time can have very serious consequences,
Alcohol dependent not only harms oneself, but causes disharmony in family and
society in terms of violence and accidents.
According
to research, young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more
likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age
21.Drinking is more harmful to teens than adults because their brains are not
yet fully developed. Drinking during this critical growth period can lead to
lifelong damage in brain function, particularly as it relates to memory, motor
skills and coordination.
Alcohol
does have both short term and long term effects. Feeling of warmth, flushed
skin, impaired judgement, lack of coordination, slurred speech, memory and
comprehension loss, hangover, headache, nausea, anxiety, weakness, chaos and
vomiting are some of the common short term side effects.
Some
long term effects of alcohol can be ability to drink more, which will
deteriorate physical condition, can become dependent on alcohol, violence and
conflicts in family members and friends and finally, it can invite death.
Curiosity
is the cause for supporting children to drink alcohol. In our society, children
are not spared from serving alcohol to adults or adults openly drinking alcohol
in front of innocent children which results in enabling children to experiment
to drink alcohol. This is a one of the bad practices today. Let us nurture a
non-alcoholic children for better tomorrow.
Many
drink alcohol at social gatherings as it is believed that alcohol instills a
sense of confidence, but some drink to get rid of stress reduction, and other
reason can be isolation.
Overcoming
an addiction to alcohol can be a long and bumpy road. At times, it may even
feel impossible, but it is possible if you got the will. If you feel that your
family life is worsening, if you feel that your life is doping, if you feel
that you are being neglected from the society and if you feel that you are at
the verge of dying-do stop alcohol. You can recover from alcoholism and alcohol
abuse, no matter even if you are at the verge of dying, you can turn your life.
